EWGLOT is the Working Group on Lot Sizing within EURO, the Association of the European Operational Research Societies.
The purpose of this Working Group is to advance the development and application of Operations Research methods, techniques and tools to the field of lot sizing. Both academic and applied research will be supported.
Lot sizing refers to the activity of constructing production plans in which decisions have to be taken on the level and timing of production lots, usually for several different products at the same time. The objective is typically profit maximization, which in many cases boils down to minimizing the total costs while satisfying the customers’ demand. Lot sizing is a central step in the optimization of overall supply chain activities. Efficient plans give companies a competitive advantage through lower costs and improved customer service.
EWGLOT gathers practitioners, researchers and OR educators with interests in the area of lot-sizing and related topics.
The purpose of EWGLOT is to constitute an aggregation and reference point for the rich and active research community in order to actively:
- promote the development and application of Operations Research models, methods and tools to the field of Lot Sizing and Production Planning;
- lot-sizing as an independent and important research area;
- promote communication and exchange of information among researchers, practitioners and students working in the field;
- promote the interest on Lot Sizing in the scientific community by organizing dedicated workshops and conferences as well as contributing to all major ones with sessions and streams, offering specialized schools and seminars, editing special and contributed issues in the most important scientific journals;
- promote the cooperation between members through joint projects.
